West Broad Street Historic District features beautiful late 19th -20th century residences designed by Marlboro County Native Lawrence Reese. Reese had no formal training in architecture, but was a self-taught master craftsman.
The Historic District features 14 houses designed by Lawrence Reese around 1890 – 1910. Today, you can walk down West Broad Street and note the grandeur of the homes and the Victorian Style architectural elements. The Belk Funeral home was built in 1900 as a residence for Abraham Hyman and was Reese’s favorite design of all of the houses.
