Housed in a 1902 Victorian dwelling, this site was the former family homes of Dr. John Frank Kinney and his son, Dr. Prentiss M. Kinney.

Donated to the Marlborough Historical Society in 1997, the museum features many exhibits including a Victorian parlor, Indian artifacts, farm implements and tools, military, textiles, and children's toy room. A hollowed-out gum log which was the bed of Mason Lee, Marlboro County's most eccentric citizen.

The Medical Museum, located in the former 1902 offices of Dr. John Frank Kinney and son, Dr. Prentiss M. Kinney, sits directly in front of the Marlboro County Historical Museum. The facility has an examination room dating back to the 1920s and another for the 1950s. An old apothecary desk, amputation kit, sterilization machine, as well as numerous medical instruments, and an x-ray machine from the 1940s make for an interesting visit.

Historic Homes and B&Bs

Many of the most ornate homes in the region have been restored to period times, and a few of them will invite you to stay overnight in the luxurious surroundings. Other homes, like those on the Cheraw self-guided tour, have a long documented history. Trace life back to the days of the rice plantation in Georgetown.

Museums and Galleries

Rotating exhibits at museums and galleries highlight the best works of the region. While in the town, check the schedule for local opera houses and theatres.

Downtown Architecture

You'll find Robert Mills architectural design in the courthouses of Williamsburg County and Conway. Bennettsville downtown architecture is a must-see.

There are treaasures to be found! Check out the 40 or so antiques and auction sites in the region.

It includes these South Carolina counties: Chesterfield, Dillon, Florence, Darlington, Georgetown, Horry, Lee, Marion, Marlboro, Williamsburg.

The themes for certified sites include African American heritage, culinary heritage, nature-based tourism, agriculture and agritourism, military history, arts or architecture of the region, as well as racing heritage. Do not miss sites include these themes, too: golf, antiques or antiquing, festivals, events, farmers' markets, the bbq trail, as well as fresh on the menu restaurants.

Sites are great attractions for visitors, get-aways, vacations, daytrips, as well as things to do near the beach or near the interstate on a rainy day.
